ChatGPT Plus vs Claude Pro vs Google AI Pro

ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro and Google AI Pro each cost about $20 a month in the US, but their value sits in different places. Keep the one whose included tools and limits match your weekly work, then add a second only for a task it handles distinctly better.

Which AI subscription is worth it?

If you pay for two plans and keep asking which one to cancel, compare the work you do each week with the tools each subscription includes. In the US, these plans cluster around $20 monthly, but the bundles are different: ChatGPT offers broad general tools, Claude emphasizes text and coding work, and Google ties Gemini to its apps, storage and media products.

The prices and headline limits below are checked against vendor pages. Prices refer to US list prices before tax; regional prices, eligibility and feature access can differ. A feature appearing in the plan does not mean its usage is unlimited.

How do the three $20 plans compare?

Plan Price and model access Research, agent and scheduled work Images, video and voice Files, context and bundled extras
ChatGPT Plus $20/month; no annual billing. Includes GPT-5.6 Sol at Medium and High reasoning, with extended model access in Work and Codex; Chat access varies by plan. OpenAI plan Deep Research is available where supported, with remaining allowance shown in the account; OpenAI does not publish a fixed Plus-wide count there. ChatGPT Work handles longer tasks, uses a cloud browser for supported web tasks, and can pause for your input or confirmation. Usage depends on task and settings; weekly limits may apply. Scheduled Tasks allow 5 active tasks on Plus. Deep Research · Work · task limits Image generation is included, with feature limits that can vary. OpenAI discontinued Sora’s web and app experiences on 26 April 2026, so Plus currently has no Sora video generation. Live voice has a published allowance of 3 hours per rolling 24 hours. Claude Pro $20/month or $200/year, billed up front (Anthropic lists $17/month as the annual equivalent). Access to more Claude models than Free, plus Claude Code; model selection and availability can vary. Anthropic pricing · plan guide Research and longer tasks are included. Claude can use the computer from the desktop app on Pro and Max, and recurring scheduled tasks are available on paid plans. The “limit” column needs interpretation. OpenAI and Anthropic use model, feature and workload caps that can move as plans change. Google publishes relative access for the Gemini app, while individual tools add their own quotas. Check the live usage panel before planning a deadline around any one number.

When should you pick ChatGPT Plus?

Choose ChatGPT Plus if you move among chat, research, voice, image creation, project files and scheduled work in one account. Its scheduled-task count is concrete, and Work can keep a multi-step task running after you leave the conversation. For a repeated five-step browser task, try it once on a low-stakes site, watch where it pauses, then decide if its allowance covers your workload.

Do not pay for Plus for video creation today. Sora’s earlier plan page still appears in search results, but OpenAI’s current discontinuation notice says its Sora web and app experiences ended on 26 April 2026. The newer status page takes precedence.

When does Claude Pro earn its place?

Pick Claude Pro when you spend long sessions drafting, editing code or working through documents, and you value Claude Code and recurring work in the same subscription. Its five-hour reset and weekly cap are useful to understand before committing to an intensive week. A long context window helps with large source sets, but each model has its own window and heavier sessions use more of the plan.

Claude is a weaker fit if your regular work depends on image or video generation, or on a bundle of storage and consumer services. Voice is there, but it draws from the same general usage pool.

When does Google AI Pro make more sense?

Choose Google AI Pro if Gmail, Docs, Drive and Photos already hold much of your work, or if you will use its storage and media benefits. The plan’s headline context size and browser-task quota are published, while the broader Gemini allowance remains usage-based. Gemini Spark’s country restrictions and account requirements matter: its schedules require a personal account and Keep Activity turned on.

The add-ons count only if you would otherwise use them. Five terabytes of storage, a video tool and a media subscription are not savings when they sit idle. Google also allows select AI benefits to be shared with family members; read current regional terms before counting that value.

Is it worth paying for ChatGPT and Claude?

Two subscriptions make sense when their jobs stay distinct. For example, keep ChatGPT for scheduled, multimodal work and Claude for recurring coding or document sessions if you use both every week. If you choose both mainly for access to different models, first check whether one service already covers your research, coding and writing needs at a sufficient limit.

The recurring cost of ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro is $40 per month, or $440 in year one if Claude is billed annually at $200 and ChatGPT monthly at $20. Using Claude’s annual plan thereafter reduces the annual combined spend to $440 each year; without it, two monthly plans total $480 a year. Google AI Pro is about $20 and may replace other paid Google services you already use. Put the actual subscriptions you keep into the AI subscription cost calculator to compare monthly and annual spend.

This is where overlap gets easy to miss: the plans all answer questions, summarize files and help with writing. If your usage is mostly those tasks, the second plan may repeat what the first already does. If you need one task to move between providers without starting its context over, OperatorNest can run on subscriptions and keys you already pay for. See bring your own key.

Limitations of this comparison

Published limits are not a promise of the same experience every day. OpenAI and Google say availability or usage can change; Anthropic’s allowance varies with model, file size, conversation length and tools. Regional rollout, account type and workspace controls also affect what appears in the app. This comparison records vendor-published limits, not measured response quality, queue time or the amount of work a real person can finish before a cap. Check your account’s plan and usage page before subscribing or cancelling.
