Create an llms.txt file for your site
Generate an llms.txt draft using the llmstxt.org proposal format.
Describe the site
Example: Acme Inc is a small software company with product documentation and support guides. Change the sample to fit your site.
XML is parsed in this browser only. URL-list format accepts one URL per line or “Page title | URL | one-line description”. This tool never fetches a URL.
Three example URLs are ready to seed.
Sections and links
A section is an H2 in the generated Markdown. Give each link a useful title and one-line description.
llms.txt draft
Example is ready. Review every title, URL, and description.
How it works
The generator follows the llmstxt.org proposal: an H1, a short blockquote summary, optional notes, and H2 sections containing Markdown links with descriptions.
The site name, summary, section names, page titles, descriptions, sitemap entries, and optional full-file link are assembled in your browser. Pasted sitemap XML is parsed with DOMParser; URL-list lines can also seed links.
The proposal describes a format, not an adopted search standard. research/ai-search-visibility.md reports a 12-week study across 83 sites with seven OpenAI, nine Anthropic, zero Perplexity, 67 Googlebot, and 193 Meta crawler requests. Those counts show fetching only; they do not establish citation impact or what each fetched file was used for.

Limits
- llms.txt is a proposal. This generator does not submit it, publish it, or confirm that an engine reads it.
- Sitemap input is parsed in your browser and is not fetched or uploaded. Seeded page names and summaries need your review.
- A generated file is a concise link index, not an llms-full.txt file or a guarantee of search visibility.
Common questions
- What is llms.txt?
- It is a proposal for a Markdown file that gives agents background information and links to useful pages on a site. It is not a web standard adopted by all search engines.
- Do major answer engines read llms.txt?
- Evidence is limited. One 12-week log study across 83 sites recorded few requests from OpenAI and Anthropic, none from Perplexity, and more from Googlebot and Meta’s crawler. Fetch counts do not show whether a file affected citations.
- Does the sitemap text leave my browser?
- No. This tool parses pasted XML or URLs in the browser. It does not fetch the sitemap or send its contents to a server.
- Should I create llms-full.txt too?
- The proposal does not require it. If you maintain one, link it only after publishing a reviewed, useful full-text file and keep it current.
