An email AI agent you write like a colleague
Your OperatorNest operator has its own email address, and you write to it the way you’d write a colleague: a plain email describing what you need, or a thread you forward or CC it on. It starts working the same as it would if you’d asked from WhatsApp or the web, and it replies in the same thread when it’s done or when it needs a decision from you.
Emailing your operator a task is different from giving it access to your whole inbox. A one-off email or a forwarded thread only gives it that conversation. If you want it to triage what arrives in your inbox, draft replies to messages you haven’t forwarded, or watch for certain senders, that’s a deliberate inbox connection you set up separately, with its own scope. The email channel described here is about reaching your operator by email, not about handing it your entire mailbox by default.
What it’s like
A task usually looks like a short exchange in the same thread:
- You: “Following up on the Acme proposal, can you draft a check-in email? It’s been 2 weeks with no reply.”
- Operator: “Draft ready, attached below. It references the proposal date and asks if they need anything else from us.”
- You: “Looks good, send it.”
- Operator: “Sent to Acme. I’ll flag it here if they reply, or follow up again in a week if they don’t.”
Forwarding works the same way. Forward a long thread with “summarize this and tell me what’s outstanding” at the top, and your operator replies with exactly that.
Approvals happen right in the thread
Anything that sends a reply, pays, books, deletes or publishes on your behalf stops and asks first, in the same email thread. You’ll get a short message explaining what’s about to happen and what your operator prepared, with a clear way to approve, edit or hold it. If you don’t respond, nothing is sent or spent. The task pauses there, your operator sends one reminder, and everything else it can do without approval keeps moving in the background.
One history, wherever you message from
Email is one way in, not a separate assistant. A task you start there shows up in the same history as tasks started on WhatsApp or Slack, and a recurring task set up by email keeps running whether or not you’re checking that inbox when it fires. If you switch to messaging from a different channel tomorrow, your operator still remembers what you asked it yesterday.
How it works, and what it sees
Your operator only sees the emails you send it, forward to it or CC it on, and any attachments in that thread. It doesn’t browse your inbox, read other threads or see mail you haven’t included it on. If a task needs information from somewhere else, like a file you keep elsewhere or a different account, you send that to your operator directly or connect it as a separate source; the email channel alone doesn’t grant that.
Setting it up
Getting started takes a few minutes. Get access, then find your operator’s email address in its settings and save it as a contact. Send a real task as your first email; your operator will confirm what it understood and ask anything it needs clarified before it starts. From there, you can email it directly, forward threads to it, or CC it as needed.
